Time to celebrate! (Acoustic, Dance, Disco, Disco House, Electro)

Feed Me + Breakbot (Club, Dance, Disco, Electronica, House, Techno)

Rogues – Not So Pretty (Feed Me Mix)
Speaking of dirty beats. Breakbot re-emerged with “Penelope Pitstop.” It has its own vibe going on- and the keyboard addition does it wonders. Check it out- wooo Breakbot!

Friendly Fires (Disco, Disco House, Electro, Electronica, Pop)

friendly fires
Paul Epworth recently released a mix of “Skeleton Boy” originally put out by Friendly Fires. It stays a little more upbeat, but doesn’t stray too far from the original. Regardless it’s a sick track; and therefore I don’t know who to credit for it. However, hearing the name Friendly Fires recalled some sick stuff to my library, mainly “Paris.” To keep with the mix theme, included within is a remix by Aeroplane. They capture and lengthen some of the legendary synth created by the trio. It was one of my favourite mixes last year. Enjoy!

Remixes (Disco House, Electro, Experimental, Pop)

Lioness – You’re In My Heart (CCENTURIESS Remix)
This mix just spells epic within twenty seconds of listening to it. It’s soft synth throws me back to the same nostalgic feeling 1979 gives to me by the Smashing Pumpkins. This song immediately grabs you. Whether out cruisin’ the streets, or watching the minutes tick past midnight, Classixx hits it right on the spot.

Thunderheist (Dance, Electro, Electronica, Powerpop, Thrash)

thunderheist
Thunderheist produce a form of electrorap that seem to have roots in hip hop, disco, and funk, all while defining a new and unique sound which is swallowing up the locals. “Jerk It” and “Suenos Duelcos” exploded onto the scene hard last year.

Mylo + The Juan Maclean (Dance, Electronica, Experimental, New Wave )

I heart new music! When I heard about the release of Mylo’s new single “I’m Back” I went searching. What I found was pretty much what I expected. Solid gold. BBC Radio One premiered the song under the enclosing statement Mylo used, which was, “I’m Back.” As a result the mix took on this name. Therefore, Mylo’s “I’m Back,” may actually be entitled something completely different. Either way, this new piece from Mylo is sick. If you like what you hear check out Otto’s Journey and Drop the Pressure on Hype Machine.

I’m Back (New Single/Radio Rip) – Mylo
Now that I have that out of my head. I get to talk about The Juan Maclean. Representing New York he’s currently on tour in Europe. His music is real chill. Marcus Worgull capitalized on his stuff by mixing the track “Simple Life.” In addition, I’ve posted some of The Juan Maclean’s own stuff. Check out “Give Me Every Little Thing.” It’s softer yet offers a heavy bass that can’t keep you still. Simply put, it’s kickass.

Kanye (Dance, Disco, Electro, Electronica, Pop)

You can hate on Kanye West all you want but his resume speaks for itself. At age 30, he is a ten-time Grammy Award winning rapper, singer and record producer. Since beginning his career, Kanye has received 36 awards amongst 114 nominations. In 2008 he released his fourth album in five years. Prior to going solo, Kanye gained fame by producing for Roc-A-Fella Records creating hit singles for Alicia Keys, Ludacris, and Janet Jackson. His work on Jay-Z’s phonomenol album, The Blueprint catapulted him into stardom. In 2007 Kanye West’s album Graduation defeated the much hyped 50 Cent’s Curtis in CD sales. When both albums released on the same day, a confident 50 cent publicly announced that he would retire if West outsold him in first-week sales. Kanye West won selling 957,000 units to 50′s 691,000 units causing a media frenzy. So needless to say… Kanye can hold his own.
Flashing Lights (Diplo Remix) – Kanye West
Diplo is also pretty damn cool. From what I see on their myspace, videos included, is that they know how to put on a show. But stage performance isn’t everything. To prove it, and coincidentally staying with the theme, they have released a Kanye West remix to “Flashing Lights.” I have to have to give props to erger for hooking me on this one. I think it’s brilliant!

ace-of-base

Being in the mood I thought I should freshen up the old retro playlist. Scavenging the world wide web for new tunes, I found a really cool twist on Ace of Base’s classic 90s song “All That She Wants.”

All That She Wants (Messkid Skull&Bones Remix) – Ace Of Base
Next is a classy mix of ZZZ by the Bag Raiders. It has become one of my new favourites to toss on during some homework or even just to kill some silent air. The piano in the song really accompanies the mix well. I think its a gem, which isn’t bad being only a few weeks into ’09.

Tassos Spiliotopoulos (Videoclips)

Tassos Spiliotopoulos - (Jazz)

Originally from Greece, Tassos Spiliotopoulos moved to London in 2000 and has studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (Mmus) and Trinity College of Music (Bmus, Hons). During that time Tassos also attended seminars at the School for Improvisational Music in New York City where he studied and performed with Ralph Alessi, Ravi Coltrane, Brad Shepik, Jim Black and Drew Gress.

During the past few years Tassos has been touring with his own band as well as numerous other creative projects, performing in clubs and festivals in the UK, Germany, France, Greece, Sweden, Spain and USA. He has worked with artists such as Kenny Wheeler, Gary Husband, Asaf Sirkis, Tim Garland, Dimitri Vassilakis, Eileen Hunter, John Parricelli, Mike Outram, John Etheridge, and more. In 2005, Tassos formed his own quartet with three of the most talented musicians he has been playing with, Asaf Sirkis, Robin Fincker and Yaron Stavi. The idea was to create a fresh sounding, contemporary group that combines lyrical, extended-form compositions with high energy improvising.

The Quartet's first album 'Wait For Dusk' was released by Konnex Records in 2006. Tassos is currently leading a new trio with Asaf Sirkis and Yaron Stavi and has just completed recording the new album 'Archipelagos', to be released 24 May 2010 by F-IRE. The album also features special guests Kenny Wheeler and John Parricelli.

Christopher George Latore Wallace (May 21, 1972 – March 9, 1997) was an American rapper. He was popularly known as Biggie Smalls (after a character in the 1975 film Let's Do It Again), Big Poppa, and The Black Frank White (after the main character of the 1990 film King of New York),[1] but primarily by his stage name The Notorious B.I.G..

Wallace was raised in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. When Wallace released his debut album Ready to Die in 1994, he became a central figure in the East Coast hip-hop scene and increased New York's visibility at a time when West Coast artists were more common in the mainstream.[2] The following year, Wallace led his childhood friends to chart success through his protégé group, Junior M.A.F.I.A.. While recording his second album, Wallace was heavily involved in the East Coast/West Coast hip-hop feud, dominating the scene at the time.

On March 9, 1997, Wallace was killed by an unknown assailant in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles. His double-disc set Life After Death, released 15 days later, hit #1 on the U.S. album charts and was certified Diamond in 2000 (one of the few hip hop albums to receive this certification).[3] Wallace was noted for his "loose, easy flow",[4] dark semi-autobiographical lyrics and storytelling abilities. Since his death, a further two albums have been released. MTV ranked him at #3 on their list of The Greatest MCs (Rappers) of All Time.[5] He has certified sales of 17 million units in the United States.[6]

I can’t hate on the movie too much because it provided an ample opportunity to showcase Ratatat’s remix to “Party and Bullshit.” It’s an interesting twist on an already golden track. With Biggie on my mind I decided to include some throwbacks as well. I can’t believe fifteen years have gone by since some of these first came out…
